  1. 1 The variable of interest was amount of homework. The study was to see if additional homework made any significant difference in education.
    2 The sample was taken nationally in the US from 8th grade students. The study says that they are equally represented, which implies that there was some form of simple random sampling involved.
    3 Private schools were not included in this study. A private middle school might yield different results when homework is assigned.
    4 Control in a study is when you remove or take into consideration possible confounding variables so that the variable of interest may be assessed. The study looked at different school subjects to see if homework had different effects on both.
    5 Math may benefit from additional homework because, unlike other subjects, math appears to show an increase in test scores when additional homework is required.
    6 The overview of this study was 36 pages long.

    The Variable of interest is the hours of homework assigned per week.
    How was the sample chosen?  
    The sample was taken from a large national study of 8th graders.      
    Were private schools included?
    Private schools were not included.      
    What does control mean?
    The control is the unaffected group that is used to compare to, the control in this case is the students doing normal amounts of homework for each subject.
    What is a possible explanation as to why math may benefit from additional homework?  
    Math may benefit from additional homework because doing multiple math problems can help one understand the subject better and help them be better at problems.
    How many pages long is this study?
    This study is 33 pages long.
